Will I Find What I'm Looking For?

I have done it. Its been done.

I am leaving the television network I am working for, away from the first of 2 goals I set for myself while in university - of working in the media industry. Leaving to work on that second goal - of backpacking for an extended period.

Granted, there have been some compromises. I would ideally have been a foreign correspondent covering some riots in Indonesia instead of just staying in a newsroom. And I would be travelling for at least a year instead of just 3-odd months.

I know I never did try as hard as I could have, and should.

Nonetheless, I am glad that I am finally starting to have that Europe trip materialise.

Why the trip? I had initially wanted to spend the time reflecting on life, on how I should be leading the rest of my days, and what would make my truly happy.

But perhaps I should not be setting such a lofty goal. Why would spending several months overseas help me grasp what I have not managed to for the last 28 years?

But there is always hope. And a heavy backpack!
